A friend of mine once said that if you are going to examine the past, you need to look back but not stare.
As she said this the story of Lot’s wife popped into my head. You will remember she was the one who got turned into a pillar of salt for looking back at the town she and her husband were fleeing.
I think that may be a good lesson: in examining the past, the danger is that you could get fixated on the past and forget the present. The paralysis of living in the past is too great for some people to escape. Don’t we all know someone who spends their life thinking about the “glory days”? Or perhaps in constant sorrow for things or opportunities lost?
It’s something to think about.
